Tuula Tamminen

Today, in the modern Europe it is crucial to continuously increase our knowledge and expertise on the mental health of children and adolescents based on European values and in the rich European cultural context. Research and training in mental health and developmental psychopathology are keys to a better future both for European individuals and societies.

The challenges of the 3rd millennium to human mental capacity and health can be faced only by focusing on both the universal promotion of healthy mental development and delivering adequate and effective mental health services early enough for children, adolescents and families in need.

With multilevel and multimodal interventions, both preventive and curative, and creating networking between frontline workers and specialists, all children and adolescents can be productively supported and even the severely ill can be cured to lead full (adult) lives. Stigmatization can best be prevented by early interventions!

ESCAP promotes awareness of mental health, increases scientific knowledge and clinical understanding, improves the skills of those working with children and adolescents, supports parenthood and advises and educates parents and develops interventions and treatments for children and adolescents in need. ESCAP and its national member societies in 32 countries create wellness in Europe.
